ASSTRA - Transport Association - is the national employer association of local public transport companies in Italy, both owned by local and private entities.

It was born in 2001 from the merger of the two trade associations Federtrasporti (federation of municipal companies) and Fenit (federation of licensed railways). Both associations had existed for more than 60 years.

Urban and extra-urban transport companies, bus operators, trams, subways, cableways, all local railways (not belonging to Trenitalia S.p.A) as well as lagoon and lake shipping companies adhere to ASSTRA.

Represents the needs and interests of public transport operators in appropriate institutional, national and international locations.

It is the social counterparty in the negotiation of the National Collective Labor Agreement for the category. Specifically, the key role of the Association is to represent its members in the conclusion of national employment contracts and assist and / or represent them in the stipulation of company agreements and in local labor disputes.

It carries out support actions at an international and national level in favor of collective and sustainable mobility.

ASSTRA promotes and supports all activities aimed at the development of associated companies by raising public opinion and institutions' awareness of the environmental, social and economic values ​​of transport and the role of this service in the development of the country.

In particular, ASSTRA defends the rights and interests of member companies by providing technical assistance in the legal, trade union, economic, administrative, fiscal, insurance, railway and technological innovation fields.

It publishes a specialized monthly magazine "TP - Public Transport" and a weekly electronic newsletter "Mobility Pills".

Also key role of the Association is to represent its members in the conclusion of national employment contracts and to assist and / or represent them in the stipulation of company agreements and in local labor disputes. In fact, the position of the Association entails a direct involvement of the confederal bodies (Confindustria and Confservizi) on legislative issues, thus affecting the management of the associated companies, through a capillary action aimed at protecting them.

The activity finds its natural explication also with regard to the competent offices of the Ministry of Transport and Welfare, especially as regards issues that may have economic implications in the sector represented.

Furthermore, ASSTRA, in its function of representing the interests of the sector, actively participates in standardization processes through the presentation of its own analysis, study and proposal documents during hearings at the appropriate institutions.
